BERNHARD GANAHL

Dipl.-Phys.

Patent Attorney, European Patent Attorney, European Trademark and Design Attorney

Focus

The focus of his occupational activity lie in the drafting and handling of patents in the area of electric engineering, software inventions as well as devices for biotechnology and optics. Furthermore he possesses great experience in opposition cases and IP litigation cases as well as trademark protection.

Training and professional experience

At the Technical University of Munich, Mr. Bernhard Ganahl studied Applied Physics. In the year 1990 he obtained his degree and then worked for three years as technical assistant in a Munich patent attorneys’ office – including internships at the German Patent and Trademark Office and the Federal Pa- tent Court. He was accredited as a German patent attorney in 1994 and in the same year also qualified as a European patent attorney.

Publications

He has made his name as a specialist legal author with, amongst others, the article “Patent situation in the field of DNA chip technology in Europe” (which appeared in no. 12/2000 of medgen, the newsletter of the German Association for Human Genetics) and the article “Is nuclear theory once again topical?” (which appeared in the Transactions of German Patent Attorneys in December 2003), dealing with German case law in respect of software inventions.

JAN ROBERT NAEFE

Dipl.-Ing. (TU Clausthal)

Patent Attorney, European Patent Attorney, European Trademark and Design Attorney

Focus

In his activity as patent attorney, Mr. Naefe works in the fields of materials science and basic industry (metallurgy, metal processing, ceramics, glass, building materials, plastics processing, industrial oven manufacture), also the technical sector in general, plus inorganic chemistry. In legal matters he has special interest in contract law, in particular licensing and legal purchase agreements. He also has extensive dealings in opposition, nullity and infringement proceedings.

Mr. Naefe also provides comprehensive oversight in another area of expertise in the field of trademark and design law.

Training and professional experience

Mr. Jan Robert Naefe, Patent Attorney, already has many years of experience in the field of industrial property protection (since 1996). He completed his training in a patent and legal attorneys’ office, in the German Patent and Trademark Office and at the German Federal Patent Court. He started work in a Munich attorneys’ office before becoming a co-founder of a Munich patent and legal attorneys’ office in 2002.

Prior to training as a patent attorney, he studied Material Sciences at the Technical University of Clausthal. In the course of his studies, Mr. Naefe gained experience in the glass industry, the cement and construction materials industry, and the refractory industry.

Mr. Naefe is a member of the German Association for Industrial Property Protection and Copyright (GRUR), of the International Federation of Intellectual Property Attorneys (FICPI) and of the International Trademark Association (INTA).

Dr. Markus Zoller

Dr. rer. nat., M.SC. Biotechnology

Focus

Primarily Dr. Zoller deals with the preparation and handling of patent procedures in the areas of chemistry, biotechnology, pharmacy and genetic engineering. Patent Attorney Dr. Markus Zoller has been working in the field of industrial and intellectual property since 2011.

Training and professional experience

Dr. Markus Zoller earned his Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree in molecular biology at the Technical University in Munich. He earned his Bachelor and Master of Science in Molecular Biotechnology at the Technical University of Munich. During his studies Dr. Zoller did an internship at the University of Amsterdam and studied one semester at the Nanyang Technological University in Singapore. After three years of research at the Max-Planck Institute for Infectious Biology in Berlin he received his Doctor’s degree in the field of molecular biology, especially (auto) antibodies.

Before he moved to Patronus IP he worked in a patent law firm in New York City and then started his work in a Munich patent attorney’s office.

Dr. Dominique J. M. Trösch

Dipl.-Chem., Dr. rer. nat.

Patent Attorney, European Patent Attorney, European Trademark and Design Attorney

Focus

Dr. Dominique Johannes Marcel Trösch, Patent Attorney, has been active in the field of industrial property rights since the year 2000. As a chemist, he deals primarily with industrial property rights in the field of chemistry, pharmaceuticals, and medicine. Dr. Trösch has already been involved in numerous opposition and nullity proceedings before Opposition Divisions and Boards of Appeal at the European Patent Office, and before the Federal Patent Court and the Federal Court of Justice of Germany. He also prepares expert opinions regarding questions of legal validity and infringement of protective rights, also in connection with freedom to operate.

Training and professional experience

Dr. Trösch studied chemistry at the Julius Maximilian University of Würzburg, from which he graduated as a member of a special research area in the field of organometallic chemistry financed by the DFG. His studies and doctorate program included overseas study and research stays at the Joensuu University in Finland (financed by Erasmus) and the Universities of Nottingham and Oxford in the United Kingdom (financed by the DAAD and the British Council).

Publications

Together with Mr. Ganahl, Dr. Trösch wrote the article “The Patent Situation in the Field of DNA Chip Technology in Europe” (medgen 12/2000). In it, they compared two fundamental patents, one of which was later awarded the honor of having its inventors named “European inventors of the year.”

Dr. Trösch is a member of the Germany Society for Industrial Property Rights and Copyright Law (GRUR), the Fédération Internationale des Conseils en Propriété Intellectuelle (FICPI), the Association Internationale pour la Protection de la Propriété Intellectuelle (AIPPI), the professional group of industrial property rights of the Society of German Chemists (GdCh), the federal association of German patent attorneys, and the European Patent Experts’ Exchange (EuPEx) e.V..

Christian Himmler

Dipl.-Ing (FH) Mechanical Engineering

European Patent Attorney

Focus

Mr. Christian Himmler has been working in the field of industrial property rights since 2006. First, as a patent engineer and then as a European Patent Attorney, he has been involved in preparing patent applications and the corresponding granting process in the fields of mechanical engineering, aeronautical engineering, automotive engineering, supply engineering, medical engineering, and regenerative energies. He also handles opposition and appeals proceedings.

Training and professional experience

Mr. Himmler earned his mechanical engineering degree at the Munich University of Applied Sciences. During his studies, he completed a first internship at a company involved in the aerospace industry, where he dealt with engines and valves for rockets. A second internship in the field of regenerative energies involved the development of fuel cells. He gained further experience as part of an internship in the automotive industry, and as a student trainee at a company that certified automotive components and at a company that was active in the field of fuel cell development. Mr. Himmler likewise wrote his thesis entitled “Service Life Extension of Direct Methanol Fuel Cells Through Selective Methanol Undersupply” in the field of fuel cell technology.

JULIA SALADIN

The focus of Ms. Saladin’s work is particularly in trademark, design, and competition law. She advises our clients in all questions relating to these legal areas: from developing patent strategies and conducting market research, to handling national and international trademark portfolios, to representing clients in infringement, opposition and cancellation proceedings. Besides that, an additional core area of her work revolve around the assessment of legal issues in the field of domain, copyright and employee invention law as well as around the drafting of license agreements.
